Server Specs

The server, after two years, has finally been upgraded to beyond 486-class hardware. For old times sake though, rather than simply update this page, I'd like to save the old server specs here as something of a record of what we used to be. :)

Servers: Apache Web Server v1.3.9, Postfix, Listar v0.129a

Hardware: 486 DX-4/100Mhz on a Gateway Proprietary Motherboard w/built-in Cirrus 542x video, 20MB RAM, Racal-Datacom NI6510 10Mbit NIC.

Services: Avenir Web supports a few important, but not yet completely implemented resources. It's main intention is to educate the web-surfing public about the world of computers and their importance in society. Services currently running: full web server; mailing listserv, which supports the Computers (COMP) mailing list, and the NAN project's list; a Windows Realm, which features the Tech Support Database; a Linux realm; an ICQ realm, and a script to automate the building of a PC. A java-based chat server was functional for some time, but it was removed due to lack of interest. The Public Contributions Project provides users with the means to express their knowledge and experience through contributions to the Avenir Web project.
